Job Summary:

The Social and Behavioral Communication (SBC) Officer will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring community-centered communication strategies to promote positive behavior change in key thematic areas such as WASH, health, hygiene, nutrition, and education. The role involves extensive community engagement, coordination with local stakeholders, and development of culturally appropriate communication materials and activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement and Mobilization

  • Work closely with communities, local leaders, schools, and health institutions to understand cultural norms and behavioral practices.
  • Facilitate participatory community sessions, awareness campaigns, and behavior change communication (BCC) activities.
  • Organize and support events such as street drama, rallies, group discussions, and other creative communication tools.

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Support the development and rollout of SBC strategies and plans based on formative research and community insights.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to align messaging with program goals (e.g., safe sanitation practices, maternal health, school attendance).
  • Assist in developing and testing IEC/BCC materials tailored to the local context.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Train community health volunteers, school teachers, peer educators, and other local actors in effective SBC approaches.
  • Strengthen local capacity in participatory communication and monitoring of behavior change initiatives.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track community engagement and behavioral change indicators through tools such as focus group discussions, pre/post surveys, and observation checklists.
  • Prepare timely reports, success stories, and case studies reflecting the impact of SBC activities.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices.
