Job Description
BVS-Nepal is committed to enhancing the overall wellbeing of burn survivors through a holistic approach. We are pleased to announce a vacancy for the position of Psycho-social Counsellor, who will play a key role in supporting the mental health and emotional recovery of burn survivors. We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team and contribute to improving the lives of survivors.
Major responsibilities:
The Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:
- Provide individual and group counseling to needy burn survivors and their family.
- Help survivors cope with trauma, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
- Teach stress management and coping techniques.
- Support survivors in rebuilding relationships with family and the community.
- Address social stigma and body image concerns.
- Assist in career counseling and resuming education or employment.
- Guide family members on how to support the survivor emotionally.
- Provide counseling to caregivers to manage stress and emotional burden.
- Work closely with medical teams to ensure survivors follow treatment plans.
- Encourage participation in physical therapy and self-care routines.
- Identify and address signs of severe depression or suicidal thoughts.
- Provide emergency psychological support when needed.
- Educate the community on burn prevention and reducing stigma.
- Advocate for policies supporting burn survivor mental health and social inclusion.
- Maintain data and case studies of the beneficiaries.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual report.
- Regularly visit hospitals and field locations to identify cases and provide essential psychosocial support.
- Regularly follow up with beneficiaries to assess their progress and status, and provide necessary support.
- Advocate for the promotion of psychosocial support activities with local governments and other stakeholders.
- Follow the inputs and additional responsibilities provided by the supervisor when it comes to the strategic benefits of the project and organization.
- Provide necessary support as per the need of project and organization.
Qualification, Skills, and Experience:
- The candidate must have an intermediate or bachelor’s in any discipline along with at least six-month psychosocial counseling training/Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counseling Psychology.
- At least one year of working experience as a psychosocial counselor.
- Able to work in a multicultural environment.
- Perform any other training-related assignments as directed by the clinical supervisor and project focal person.
- Able to make field visits frequently within and out of the main duty station as required by the project’s activities.
- Sound knowledge and skills of the computer, email, and internet. Able to prepare reports in Microsoft word and excel and submit them to the project focal person.
- Preference will be given to local candidates with fluency in both Nepali and local languages, and good English report-writing ability.
Location: Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Birgunj and Butwal (1 in each location)
Duration: 1 Year (January 2026 to December 2026) with a possibility of extension
